The Limited clothing shop opened its first store in 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. Leslie Wexner used some money from his parents to open up the retail location that concentrated on just women’s fashions. It was soon apparent that the younger Wexner had a good idea and his parents closed their shop to help him grow his idea. The company went public in 1969, trading as LTD. During the 1980s, the company started buying other clothing companies, including Victoria’s Secret and Lane Bryant. (It’s a wonder they didn’t buy Ann Taylor clothing or Hot Topic clothing!)
Even while purchasing other companies, the main brand was looked after and grown. With over 4,000 stores in the United States, this clothing store started by an enterprising and fashion minded son has come a long way. And while the company has grown large over the years, they still pay attention to the details, which makes them a brand that a lot of people trust.
