Gap clothing has been around since 1969 when the clothing brand started in California. Along with the main brand, the clothing empire also puts out Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Athletaa. Primarily, though, they’re known for the namesake brand, a name that has kept them doing well since the beginning in San Francisco. Today, they have over 3,000 stores around the world and employ a large number of people. (It’s not known if there are more people making Sisley Clothing and Max Mara Clothing.)
The name actually refers to the “generational gap,” a phrase that was very popular in the late 1960s. Today, though, the simple, short name means a lot more to a lot of people. To most, it means good clothes at a fair price. Some people don’t like the brand, but this is to be expected. (Maybe they’d like American Eagle clothing better. Who knows.)
